JIMAS Responds
There are some standard letters going around that seem to clarify the situation. Unfortunately we have been able to get hold of a full version of the initial response. In fact a certain brother asked them about the secular stand of the Quilliam Foundation and of course Usama Hassan .
This is their response in full

From brother,
Innal hamdalillah was-salat was-salam ‘ala rasulillah.
1. JIMAS is NOT an affiliate of any organisation,
whether MCB, Quilliam Foundation or anything else.
2. JIMAS has not taken part in any meetings with
the Quilliam Foundation nor signed any agreements.
3. Abu Muntasir personally has not had an
opportunity yet to provide any advisory role with
anyone from the Quilliam Foundation.
In light of your email, your advise is requested
on two matters:
a. What you know about these “secularists”. Why
and how they are secularists?
b. How you see only harm for the Muslims should they
start to accommodate them. How should Muslims deal
with them according to the Deen?
JazakumAllahu khairan.
Wassalam ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah.

What is very worrying is the response in point a.! They are referring to Usama Hassan and the Quilliam Foundation. Now, why oh why would they doubt such an obvious thing? Why do they have to muddy the water with the Quilliam Foundation and those who support them by giving a “relative” standard undergraduate response to the accusation. You see, according to whoever responded Secularism is in the eye of the beholder , or shall we say (to be more accurate) in the eyes of our social constructs! If the Quilliam Foundation is muddy than we really do have a problem.
Finally we have Hamza sending an email and suddenly his name is taken off! I have confirmed the sequence of events with the Hamza himself. Now they claim that they wanted to make him a special guest! How in the world does that even address the issues he brought up? It seems a very strange response and if I didnt have Husn al Dhunn someone seems to be backtracking on a rash decision
Unfortunately like Usama Hassan, this response did not clarify things at all! Why cant they simply say that the Quilliam Foundation does not represent Islam? What is their position on Usama’s heresies? We wait for further clarification…
